Drake had left the hospital to work on getting the documents. A few hours later, Tamara was discharged from the hospital, and the girls took her home. Surprisingly, she felt great. Only her arm hurt a little. And that was only because of the wound.

As soon as they all left, she headed straight to work. She knew the idea was crazy. Even though she felt okay, she still needed rest. But then her time was running out.

Drake later came to her house and gave him the bank records. When he and the girls left, Tamara went to her office. Alone.

Tamara’s office was one of the few places where she could remain even close to uninterrupted. She could concentrate on whatever work came her way, free from the annoyances of daily life. No children ran down the halls screaming bloody murder, no domestic squabbles—no, only her and the hum of her laptop, and the occasional ringing of her phone.

However, today was not a simple day; it was plagued by an interruption that Tamara struggled to welcome with opened arms. It was tall, dark, handsome and named Raymond.

She tried to get him off her back, but that didn’t work. He had gone back to the hospital to find out she was gone. He then checked her house before coming to look for her at the office.

The door to her office opened and he walked in, standing in the entrance as he set eyes on her. He wasn’t at all in a good mood.

“You still won’t give up,” he said as he slowly walked toward her.

Honestly, he looked like he hadn’t slept in days, with dark circles beneath his eyes and his handsome face marked with stress.

He was worried sick about her.

But he sure looked better than the last time she saw him at the hospital. He had at least had a bath, and she could smell his cologne. He smelled fresh and delicious.

“Giving up would mean giving up on you, and I can’t do that.”

He didn’t try to argue with her. He just dropped his briefcase on the table and stood still, looking at her, towering over her.

Tamara disliked having to look up at him, so she stood up from her armchair and walked closer. “Ray, the wedding anniversary party is tomorrow.”

He shrugged. “I know.”

“I can’t just sit here and do nothing.”

“I know.”

“Ray…”

He cut her off. “I’m not trying to stop you. That’s not why I’m here.”

She gave him a worried frown. “Then why are you here?”

Slowly, he opened the briefcase he had placed on the table, took out a folder and handed it to her. “If I don’t make it past tomorrow, I’d like for you to have this. And please don’t say no.”

“What is it?”

Before she could open it, he placed a hand over hers to stop, eyes locked together, staring intently, his eyes like liquid fire. “When I denied us, I want you to know it was because I had no choice. The scandal was going to destroy your career.
